Prince Edward’s visit to Gibraltar angers Spain
MADRID — Spain has lodged a complaint to Britain over the visit next month by Prince Edward to the disputed British colony of Gibraltar.
The Prince and his wife Sofie are due to visit Gibraltar on June 11th as part of the Queen’s Diamond jubilee celebrations.
The Madrid government sees visits by British authorities to Gibraltar as an affront to Spain.

Queen Elizabeth gives the Royal seal of approval to Gibraltar
The Queen has written to the people of Gibraltar to thank them for their loyalty as celebrations get under way for her Diamond Jubilee.
The monarch’s letter is in response to a ‘message of loyalty’ sent by Chief Minister Fabian Picardo on behalf of Gibraltar residents.
“I am sure we will all want to take part in the celebrations of Her Majesty’s reign and of Gibraltar’s enduring Britishness,” Picardo said.
In response Her Majesty wrote “I send my grateful thanks to the people of Gibraltar for their kind message of congratulations. In return, please accept my good wishes for a memorable and enjoyable Diamond Jubilee Year. Elizabeth R.”
Numerous events have taken place on the rock already this year to commemorate the diamond jubilee year and many more exciting events are planned.
