The government has this week announced that cruise ships will be allowed to open their onboard casinos and shops after 6pm.
This will provide an incentive for the ships to remain alongside until the early hours of the morning, allowing for the passengers to go ashore in the evening and off duty staff to have some free time in Gibraltar.
In the past the ships usually embarked on their trip at around 5pm in order to reach international waters so that casinos and shops could open even if the next port of call was close by.
This is fantastic news for businesses on The Rock and should increase trade.
It will be made law in the future which is a win win situation for the cruise operators, crew and residents of Gibraltar.
Importantly too is that fuel consumption will go down, good for the pockets of the operators and the environment.
