Gibraltar’s new “Island”

Work is to start on sinking the series of submarine piles that will form the foundations of the man-made “Heart Island” which will become an integral part of developer Greg Butcher’s £100 million luxury Ocean Village taking shape at Marina Bay.  Sales of the almost 150 apartments and penthouses which comprise Phase II of the project were launched on Wednesday – and were taken up within hours of the launch.
Several international companies are interested in becoming tenants on the island.   There are proposals including a five star hotel and a “living museum”
that would be ideal for the location.

INCENTIVE FOR CRUISE SHIPS TO LINGER IN GIBRALTAR

The government has this week announced that cruise ships will be allowed to open their onboard casinos and shops after 6pm.

This will provide an incentive for the ships to remain alongside until the early hours of the morning, allowing for the passengers to go ashore in the evening and off duty staff to have some free time in Gibraltar.

In the past the ships usually embarked on their trip at around 5pm in order to reach international waters so that casinos and shops could open even if the next port of call was close by.

This is fantastic news for businesses on The Rock and should increase trade.

It will be made law in the future which is a win win situation for the cruise operators, crew and residents of Gibraltar.

Importantly too is that fuel consumption will go down, good for the pockets of the operators and the environment.
