Afternoon at Europa Point

What a fantastic day……I had never been to Europa point before. Trips to Gibraltar were mainly to do with supermarket shopping and stocking up with cigarettes!
My partner Dean, who has always had a strong passion for Gibraltar since living there briefly as a kid on his family’s yacht, had been telling me for a long time how beautiful it is at the point, especially on a clear day.
The day was not perfect for visibility, but was not too bad, so we set of in that general direction.
We were in Marina Bay Port at the time, and thought it would be nice to walk there.

We set of in a southerly direction enjoying the walk. Never believing that you can actually get lost
on the rock! We walked quickly up the bustling main street, cut down John Mackintosh square on to the road. But instead of veering left we took the right bend and ended up in an industrial area. Dean who works with boats was quite delighted and we continued further into it.

We even saw a boat that we used to own on the hard there!
By now although it was November the weather was so hot……..we found that in order to get back on the right route we had to climb what seemed like 1000 steps! I struggled on behind Dean wishing I had adorned shorts instead of jeans.
But I was so glad for our wrong turn because I saw such pretty buildings that I had no idea existed.
Lovely houses and such twisty turns roads. A lovely place to live.

Finally we got up to the right road to catch the bus to Europa Point. By now we were very hot.
Travelling along on the bus, which came very quickly I might add, I enjoyed the views.
Although I was not prepared for the beauty of Europa Point itself though.
The sky was such a vivid blue colour, it was very clear and The mosque looked amazing with the sky as a background.

We spent a fair amount of time there using the telescope to look at the views of Morocco, although next time I go I will take binoculars, as the telescope was a bit of a rip off.
It must be a fascinating place for bird enthusiasts. For us novices, there is a board explaining which migrating birds to be looking out for and at what time of the year.
The only thing that spoilt the place for me was that there was no cafe or restaurant to enjoy a bite to eat or a coffee whilst drinking in the views. I assume that there is such a facility in the summer months.
